“Both would look fine, but you’ll match us better in the new one,” said Fire. He watched Sky’s hair pin itself into place and glanced at the stick Sky had given him on the folded pile of clothes. He shrugged, for one evening and pinned up out of the way he wouldn’t mind long hair. It grew quickly, falling halfway down his back. “Sigyn was wishing I’d grow my hair before we left,” he said. “I don’t know why everyone wants it long.”

He walked over behind Fire, absently putting the dress away and bringing the selected outfit over with him. He looked at the longer fall of red, reaching out and petting it.

“Maybe because it’s a nice color?”

“Sigyn probably wants to play with it.” This seemed plausible as Sky’s motivation as well.

“She looks at mortal pictures of me and gets strange ideas sometimes. I gave myself long pointed ears and a goatee once, that was interesting.” Mostly because the ears had been erogenous zones. Fire smiled at the memory.

He leant into Sky’s petting with a happily. “Show me how to put these clothes you’ve brought me on.”

“You’ve had pointed ears before too?”

That was an interesting point of commonality. And here he’d thought he was alone in getting those in a mixed quirk of soul and genetics. He continued petting Fire absently as he contemplated that, right up until Fire’s request caught up with him.

“Do you want me to demonstrate? Because I’m going to need the clothes you and Shenleon chose to do that.”

Fire patted her shoulder and finished brushing her hair out. “Should I braid it?” he asked. “Oh, Sky’s got some clothes for you, I think. And for me, although I have no idea how to wear them so he might just have to dress us both.”

Ah, right, he could let her borrow one of his since the sop hadn’t carried one that suited her very well. He pulled out the dress he’d made for her for the Festival, and a silver blue haori/hakama set with white clouds embroidered at the shoulders. Then he held them up for inspection while his hair began to twist itself into a bun on the back of his head, with the remaining five feet separating into two sections.

“Which of these would you prefer?”

He let the two choices remain in the air where they were as the two sections folded into large loops, which folded again into a smaller loop and a larger loop. The parts where the folds joined were next to and slightly under the bun. Carefully, he twisted the two hairsticks into the joins, and slid them into the base of the bun, leaving his hair looking somewhat like a butterfly with its wings lowered instead of spread.

Roskva tried to focus on the questions instead of being distracted by Sky’s hair rearranging itself. “A braid would probably be a good idea….” She paused, looking at the clothing uncertainly. The Festival dress had been wonderful, obviously, but Sky had brought another option out of, so to speak, the blue…. “Er. They’re both lovely. Would one be more appropriate than the other tonight?”

“Both would look fine, but you’ll match us better in the new one,” said Fire. He watched Sky’s hair pin itself into place and glanced at the stick Sky had given him on the folded pile of clothes. Fire took the brush and started brushing out Roskva’s hair. He laughed at her words. “Oh dear, the list of things Sky might be just keeps getting longer.”

Oh Tree, Mew and Celebi both disagreed with that one. So Pokedrasil had been laughing about this? Why couldn’t anyone just accept that no one knows and call it a life?

“Will it keep him from trying to attack again?”

The clasp at the end of his braid disappeared while the decorative pins Fire had invented floated over to his hand while the braid unraveled. He hadn’t seen the outfit Fire and Shenleon chose, but the pins might go with it. He let the part of his hair that was out relax for a moment as he contemplated alternative hairstyles.

“I really hope so.” This came out sounding a bit more stressed than she’d intended, and Roskva shook herself slightly — which was not the best idea when someone was brushing her hair. She was not going to whine at Sky over someone who was her responsibility trying to fight him. That would be ridiculous.

Fire patted her shoulder and finished brushing her hair out. “Should I braid it?” he asked. “Oh, Sky’s got some clothes for you, I think. And for me, although I have no idea how to wear them so he might just have to dress us both.”

“I think Sky scares him, lots of warriors get like that around Seidrmaedr,” said Fire. He walked over to Roskva and lifted a hank of damp hair. “Sky, I know you have a hairbrush in there. We need to borrow it before going to dinner.”

“It is fine. I just wanted him to stop trying to attack me.”

He pulled out a black hair brush with soft tipped bristles, handing it to Fire while he handed the fan and the blue-flowered hair-stick to Roskva.

“I’ll go get ready as well, if no one minds?”

His hair was very free of tangles right now, so styling it appropriately would not take very long.

Roskva looked down at the fan and stick in her hands, thrown into complete bewilderment by having her apology met with presents. “Wh — ah, thank you very much.” And she should probably have braided her hair into some sort of presentability by now, but she’d left it loose to dry a bit and then got distracted. “Um. He might think you’re a kind of Arceus now.”

Fire took the brush and started brushing out Roskva’s hair. He laughed at her words. “Oh dear, the list of things Sky might be just keeps getting longer.”

Gyarados leant forward and disappeared into his pokeball without fuss, he didn’t really mind having a rest in there and returning by himself was more dignified than making Roskva return him.

“Looks like the cleaning went well,” said Fire. “You seem to have a knack with that Gyarados.”

When he couldn’t passively sense Gyrados anymore, he stepped out of the trees into the clearing with the pond.

“Did the slime give you any trouble?”

He was holding the fan and hair-sticks behind his back for the moment, as if it hadn’t one of them was going to be an apology gift.

“He settled down a lot.” Roskva looked at Sky a bit uncomfortably. Even with the gloves, she wasn’t entirely sure of his opinion on cutting the paralysis short. “Not really. I washed off afterward.” Her hair was still damp, though she’d wrung it out enough it wasn’t soaking her clothing. “I apologize for his behavior.”

“Good idea,” said Fire. “I wonder whether she’s got Gyarados calmed down yet?” He grinned at Clefairy, ignoring her disapproving expression, and gave one of her wings a tweak.

Sky looked down at Clefairy, slightly concerned, before looking back up at Fire.

“She probably has, but I should stay out of sight until we are certain he’ll stay that way.”

Shenleon nodded, if they were traveling together it was best not to start fights. He followed as Sky began leading the way back to the pond.

Clefairy gave Mist a plaintive look, but he tended to put up with a lot more than she thought was a good idea, even from her own colony. Maybe it didn’t bother him because nobody could really make him do it, like Fire said, but she still wasn’t sure it was healthy. She rather approved of his deciding to thump Gyarados even before the dragon threatened anybody but him.

The chanting of poetry could be heard from some way off as they approached. “Aw,” said Clefairy. “I missed a story. Oh well.”

Roskva happened to look the right direction to see Fire — and the pale pink of Clefairy shedding moonlight — and raised a hand to wave. She finished the stanza and picked up Gyarados’s pokeball. “Time to go, I think. I’ll pick up again later.”

Gyarados leant forward and disappeared into his pokeball without fuss, he didn’t really mind having a rest in there and returning by himself was more dignified than making Roskva return him.

“That’s very gracious of you,” said Fire, half way between suppressing a giggle and being relieved, since it would actually be easier to spend time with Sky if he wasn’t being watched suspiciously by a dragon.

He paid for the kimono and had it wrapped, even though Sky might be going to wear it to dinner, then headed over to the others.

“I didn’t find anything for Shenleon to wear, although we found something for you between us,” he told Sky.

Shenleon nodded, before following Fire to the cash register and back over to Sky, checking that nothing had somehow happened in the brief time he was distracted.

“I found something for you, as well. Not sure you’d use it though.”

Sky offered Fire the package containing the red with gold embroidery haori and hakama, as well as the hair-stick with a small chain of embers.

“I also found some things for Roskva. I think we should go get her.”

And possibly get changed as well. Though he might need to help with that. He didn’t think Fire had worn such clothing before.

Clefairy shook her head at both of them, rather dismayed, but it was true that Mist could handle himself. She still didn’t think either of them sounded very gracious.

“Good idea,” said Fire. “I wonder whether she’s got Gyarados calmed down yet?” He grinned at Clefairy, ignoring her disapproving expression, and gave one of her wings a tweak.

“If they’re not going to hurry up about collecting you you should tell us another story,” said Gyarados.

Fire smiled at Shenleon. “I’ll pay. Trade you for a share in your hoard?” He wasn’t really serious - Sky wasn’t a thing to be owned - but it was hard to resist teasing when he suspected Shenleon would take the question entirely seriously.

Shenleon gave Fire a very serious look, eyes narrowed slightly, before nodding.

“You’ll be allowed to spend time with Sky unsupervised.”

Whether or not anything happened would be up to them. But he wouldn’t supervise Fire’s interactions with Sky unless Sky asked.

“Hmm. Yes, I should.” Roskva thought back for a moment to find her place and then took up the Helgakvitha again.

“That’s very gracious of you,” said Fire, half way between suppressing a giggle and being relieved, since it would actually be easier to spend time with Sky if he wasn’t being watched suspiciously by a dragon.

Exactly!

*his voice was filled with cheerfulness, pride and possession. Sky was his and he would fight against anyone who dares to touch him*

*he blinked, somewhat confused by how very cheerful that statement had been.*

So, this would be a good thing?

*eyes widening a bit. A good thing? Then nodding after some time*

Well, I believe it is, aye!

Will it keep your fellow Avengers from attacking me?

“I’ll just stop things killing you. Keeps it simple,” said Gyarados.

“I don’t think a collar would suit you anyway,” said Fire. Clefairy didn’t have much in the way of neck when you got down to it. A collar could probably double as a belt, depending on whether she wore it above or below her arms. He took the kimono carefully and shot an impish grin at Shenleon. “So, do you have the money to pay for this?”

Sky gathered his purchases, including a nice hair-stick with green chimes and silver vine tracings to go with the one Leafeon picked out, as his hair is rather long, and went to the cash register. Paying for his purchases, he went to stand over by the door.

Shenleon looked up at Fire and shook his head, somewhat dejected. He had some nice stuff he could trade, but no money.

“No…”

Roskva looked up at him with a grin. “Well, thank you.” And it was really a little surreal to go so swiftly from having him threaten to eat her friends (not to mention their first meeting) to hearing him casually declare he would protect her. It was an odd evening.

“…Not so well, no.”

“If they’re not going to hurry up about collecting you you should tell us another story,” said Gyarados.
